Peak District Hiking Trips, September 2023

In September 2023, with funding from Nottingham City Council we took just under 50 asylum seekers from 4 different hotels which are operated by the Home Office, to Matlock to participate in hikes around Lover's Walk and High Tor. These hikes were over 5 miles long and we climbed up to 950 feet above sea level. The sessions were a real challenge and left everybody with amazing memories, a sense of accomplishment, heightened socialĀ  connectedness and a sense of wellbeing. Hiking is a good exercise which has excellent physical and psychological health and wellbeing outcomes, and is suitable for a broad range of ability and fitness levels The service users enjoyed the sessions so much, that they have requested monthly hikes moving forwards - something which we are keen to receive funding to provide to them, free of charge.
